About Gringo Jiu Jitsu

Welcome to Gringo Jiu Jitsu — where technique meets community, and hard work meets good vibes.

We’re not a cult, and we don’t do bowing rituals or yell at people for needing a drink of water. We're a team — and

a pretty friendly one at that.Whether you’re a complete beginner, a curious parent, a competitive athlete, or just someone looking

for a better outlet than yelling into your steering wheel — you’re welcome here. We believe Jiu Jitsu should build more than

just skills. It should build confidence, resilience, discipline, and real friendships — both for kids and adults. Our classes are fun,

safe, and structured to challenge you just enough to grow, without making you feel like you’re in a fight club.

Our gym is based in beautiful Gerringong, NSW, and we’ve built a local community of members who look out for each other,

train hard, and genuinely enjoy getting better together.

Meet Head Instructor Ryan Brown

Ryan is the founder and head coach of Gringo Jiu Jitsu. With over a decade on the mats, he brings a balance

of technical skill, humour, and practical teaching that makes every class feel both challenging and rewarding.

Ryan has trained under some of the best coaches in Australia and has helped hundreds of students — from

nervous first-timers to seasoned competitors — gain skill, confidence, and direction in their training.

He now continues his own development with Grappling Education, learning and training alongside some of the top

competitors in the country. Ryan brings these cutting-edge insights and techniques directly to the Gringo mats

 — giving students access to elite-level knowledge in a laid-back, accessible environment.

Why We’re Different

  • No egos: You’ll be training with people who want to see you win, not tap you out and post about it.

  • No cult vibes: Go to the bathroom. Ask questions. Wear socks. We don’t care. We just want you to train.

  • All levels welcome: Whether you’re 5 or 45, unfit or unstoppable, there’s a place for you here.

  • Built on community: We’re not just a gym — we’re a team, and we treat each other that way.
